Damiano David: Il mio racconto senza Giorgia Soleri, forse sarei morto
Gianluca Gazzoli is back with his popular podcast “Passa dal BSMT,” and his first guest was none other than Damiano David, the frontman of the internationally renowned Italian band Maneskin. Following their recent appearance at the Video Music Awards, Damiano granted a lengthy interview to the host, in which he also revealed several details about his personal life. Specifically, Damiano spoke about his relationship with Giorgia Soleri. After a six-year-long romance, the couple announced their breakup about three months ago. The announcement was somewhat forced, as it was preceded by a viral video in which the rockstar was seen kissing another girl at a nightclub.
Initially, it was believed that Damiano had betrayed Giorgia, as the news of their separation had not yet been made public. After the video went viral, both of them expressed themselves on their respective social media platforms, stating that they had actually broken up several days prior and that their relationship had always been open. Nonetheless, the Maneskin frontman addressed this episode and how he tries to handle the persistent invasion of privacy that often occurs in his life:
“For many years, I hid, trying to control everything, but then I realized that it’s just stress, and some things cannot be controlled. At the same time, I firmly believe that there is a private sphere that should remain as such. I don’t understand how someone can think of taking out their phone and making a video of me kissing another girl. Keep it to yourself and do whatever you want with it, but don’t publish it. Why do you publish it? Because you want your moment of fame, but you have to do it at my expense. I know who posted it; I even wrote to them and told them that I will sue.”
Afterwards, Damiano spoke about his ex-girlfriend, speaking highly of her. The two started dating before the singer’s breakthrough, and for the first few years, they kept their relationship a secret. After Sanremo and their victory at Eurovision, Maneskin’s career exploded worldwide, and Damiano confessed that he managed to not completely lose his way thanks to Giorgia Soleri. Having a girlfriend like her by his side helped the 24-year-old handle all the madness he was experiencing during that time. For this reason, despite everything, she will always remain a very important part of his life:
“She taught me so many things. She was a fundamental part. I think things would have gone very differently if I had been single; I probably would have ended up dead, I say this openly and have always said it. I would have somehow been killed at 21, but here I am at 24.”
Lastly, Damiano also talked about how he deals with the flood of criticism he receives every day. The singer revealed that he has been accused of everything, even bestiality, and that there are still people who heavily insult him simply for cutting his hair. Fortunately, the Maneskin frontman declared that he has become “immune” to haters and has learned to live his life without paying any attention to certain comments.
