Grignani: il difficile legame col padre e il supporto dei colleghi dopo la sua morte
Gianluca Grignani, the singer-songwriter known for hits like “La mia storia tra le dita,” is mourning the loss of his father. His father passed away recently, and it is a particularly poignant moment as Grignani dedicated the song with which he participated in the 2023 Sanremo Festival to his father. The song, titled “Quando ti manca il fiato” (When you run out of breath), was written by the rocker with his father in mind.
Grignani announced the loss himself, sharing a post on Instagram in which he bid farewell to his father and quoted a line from the aforementioned Sanremo song: “And for the rest, let everyone judge themselves. Goodbye, dad.”
Fans and colleagues show support for Grignani
Many fans and colleagues from the music and entertainment industry have expressed their condolences to the artist. Among the comments of support under his post were messages from Antonella Clerici, Piero Pelù, Mietta, Laura Pausini, Nek, Raimondo Todaro, and countless others.
“Quando ti manca il fiato” is a powerful and intense song, born out of Grignani’s complicated relationship with his father. The musician himself explained that the song was born spontaneously after an unexpected phone call with his father. During that conversation, a few months ago, Grignani recalled his father asking him if he would attend his funeral.
The lyrics of the song go:
“My father would come back in the evening. And he was strong when he was in the mood. I remember this well. Yes, I remember this well. My father was just like any other. But he was my hero when he smiled at me. We still lived together. I remember this well. And then I don’t remember anymore. Twenty years later, from the land of memories, they call me. (They call me). Breaking the silence in two. With a ring of the telephone.” And further… “Goodbye, dad, or rather, farewell dad, I forgive you, my tears are sincere, but there are those who won’t, accept the truth and amidst those who feign grief, it will be your pride.” And then the line he also dedicated to his father in the post: “So that you know that I love you all the same, and for the rest, let everyone judge themselves.”
Grignani has previously spoken about his parents’ separation. They divorced when he was 18 years old. The singer-songwriter described the end of their marriage as “an unresolved separation, but not between mother and father, but between father and son. He left in an improper way: he involved me. I felt alone. He didn’t make the choices that I, for example, am making.”
The musician also admitted to fearing that he might be similar to his father, a figure who “made mistakes and whom I don’t know whether to blame or forgive. At the same time, I miss his presence.” He further stated, “When I meet his other son, I feel like I have roots. The difference is that I can say ‘I love you’ and give hugs, something my parents didn’t do.”
Grignani had also revealed that his father had moved to Hungary and that he hadn’t seen him in 15 years. “He hasn’t heard the song yet, and I wouldn’t want his heart to break when he does,” he concluded.
