Il successore di Prigozhin, Troshev, coordinerà la Wagner in Ucraina: scopri di più sul suo ruolo
Andrey “Sedoy” Troshev, a retired colonel and former chief of staff of the Wagner private military company, has been appointed to coordinate the activities of volunteer groups in Ukraine. Troshev, a veteran of the Afghanistan and Chechen wars, as well as deployments in Syria and Ukraine with Wagner, joined the Ministry of Defense in July after refusing to follow Evgheny Prigozhin in a mutiny in June.
Troshev, who is 70 years old and originally from Leningrad, has received numerous honors for his service. He was twice awarded the Order of the Red Star for his service in Afghanistan, twice awarded the Order for Courage and a medal for Meritorious Service for his actions in Chechnya. In 2016, he was named a Hero of Russia for leading the attack on Palmyra against ISIS.
In December 2021, Troshev was included in the European Union’s sanctions list for his role in Syria, particularly in the Deir ez-Zor region, and for his “crucial contribution to Assad’s war.”
Before the plane crash that claimed Prigozhin’s life on August 23, Putin had offered the mercenaries of the Wagner company the opportunity to come under his command in a Kremlin meeting on June 29. Troshev was often associated with Dmitri Utkin in the past, and they were both present at a Kremlin reception in December 2016 where the highest honors were distributed.
Troshev, who had previously served as a colonel in the special rapid reaction police force of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in St. Petersburg and as a member of the riot police in the northwestern district, was also a paratrooper in the artillery corps. He has never worked as a cook or restaurateur.
