La scelta del padre di Saman di non testimoniare durante il processo: ecco cosa è successo

Shabbar Abbas, the father of Saman, has chosen not to speak. Today was supposed to be his examination in front of the Court of Assizes in Reggio Emilia, where he is charged with the murder of his 18-year-old daughter along with four other family members.

The 46-year-old Pakistani, however, was present in the courtroom with his lawyers after being extradited. He chose not to respond, exercising his right to do so.

“It’s a technical choice,” his defense attorney Enrico Della Capanna explained. “He will probably make spontaneous statements in the courtroom after hearing his son’s testimony.”

Saman’s brother, who recently turned 18 and lives in a protected community, will be heard in the upcoming hearings. He is considered the key witness for the prosecution and has always identified his uncle, Danish Hasnain, as the actual perpetrator of the crime.

“The defense of the uncle is trying to shift the focus onto the mother as the author of the crime. However, according to the camera footage, she wouldn’t have had enough time to go to the greenhouses and come back,” Della Capanna added.

In the early afternoon today, the testimony of Ayub Saqib, Saman’s boyfriend who has repeatedly reported threats from her family members who did not accept their relationship, is expected.
