“Migranti Genova: Accoglienza di Minori Non Accompagnati in Container”
Valentina Militerno, collaborator of the Social Welfare Councilor of the Municipality of Genoa, Lorenza Rosso, and owner of the company where a third sector organization wants to establish the controversial reception center for unaccompanied foreign minors, has resigned in the last few hours.
During today’s city council meeting in Genoa, Mayor Marco Bucci is expected to clarify the situation. In addition, an Article 55 (a document in which the council requests further investigation on a specific issue) regarding reception will be discussed.
The controversial idea of “welcoming” unaccompanied foreign minors in structures such as containers is questionable both in terms of substance and the method adopted. The allocation of the Rivarolo area, where the center is planned to be located, is clearly a conflict of interest.
The councilor’s collaborator resigns
According to the land registry checks, as reported by Secolo XIX, the company that owns the property belongs to a member of Councilor Lorenza Rosso’s staff, who will be responsible for deciding whether or not to open the center for minors.
The company in question is Grunelius Srl, with its registered office in Genoa, a share capital of 10,000 euros, and Valentina Militerno as the sole owner. Carlo De Romedis, her husband, is the administrator.
According to the newspaper, Militerno was hired on a fixed-term basis by the Municipality as an administrative officer on September 21, to provide “support for control activities and political guidance” for Councilor Lorenza Rosso’s department.
Rosso claims to be unaware that her collaborator was the owner of that area and did not identify any issues of appropriateness or potential conflicts of interest with her administration. On the other hand, she does not see any problems or embarrassment regarding the containers.
