Naska: “Ho perso l’opportunità di partecipare ad Amici a causa di un linguaggio inappropriato”

Diego Caterbetti, also known as Naska, is one of the pioneers of Italian pop punk. In a recent interview with Corriere, he shared his journey from being a rapper in a small town of 800 inhabitants to almost participating in Amici, a popular talent show.

When Naska moved to Milan, his music career took a significant turn. He received a record label offer and also had the opportunity to participate in Maria De Filippi’s talent show. However, he felt that it wasn’t the right choice for him. Naska said, “It was a talent show that didn’t reflect who I am. I would have had to change the lyrics of my songs and clean up my image. At that time, I was sleeping on friends’ couches, but I said, ‘Screw it, I don’t care about the money. It may take longer, but I’ll do it my way.'”

Naska also spoke about how his looks became a double-edged sword for him. This was one of the reasons he turned down Amici, as they focused more on his appearance than his music. He said, “It made me feel awful, as if the message was ‘Sing whatever you want, you have a pretty face.'” However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of participating in the Sanremo Festival in the future. If he does, he will do it his way, with his tattoos and his unique style.

Many young people identify with Naska’s music, which talks about girls, partying, anger, and not wanting to conform. After a summer full of concerts, the deluxe edition of his album “Nella mia stanza” will be released on September 29th. He recently collaborated with the punk group La Sad on the single “Summersad 4.”

During his early years in Milan, Naska worked various jobs, such as a salesperson, store clerk, and office worker. This routine helped him build a foundation for his music. He said, “I wake up and work on my songs, taking a lunch break in between. I keep Saturday nights to myself to just be a mess. I’m an anarchist, but without bothering anyone.”

In the interview, Naska also talked about his childhood, which was filled with music. He grew up with a passion for musical instruments and always wanted to be part of a band. His musical idols include Sum 41, Blink-182, and icons like Kurt Cobain, whose diaries he has read.

Naska’s journey in the world of pop punk continues to evolve, and his music resonates with a wide audience.
